Deforestation
Deforestation is the permanent removal of forests or tree cover to make way for agricultural, industrial, or urban land uses. Deforestation contributes to climate change by releasing large amounts of carbon dioxide stored in trees and soil, and also leads to the loss of biodiversity, wildlife ecosystems, and indigenous cultures. Efforts to combat deforestation include promoting sustainable forest management, afforestation and reforestation programs, and policies that incentivise the conservation of forests and the use of sustainable, deforestation-free supply chains.
